Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data displayed in the comment form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam.
The anonymised string created from the user’s email address (also known as a digest) may be passed to the Gravatar service to verify that the user is using it. The privacy policy of the Gravatar service is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once a comment is approved, the profile picture is publicly visible in the context of the comment.

Media

When uploading photos to the site, avoid uploading photos with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Site visitors can download and extract any location data from images on the site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may give us permission to store your name, email address and website in cookies. These cookies are for your convenience, so that you do not have to re-enter your details when you leave another comment. These cookies will be stored for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain personal information and is deleted when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set several cookies to save your login data and screen display options. The login cookies are stored for two days and the screen options cookies for one year. If you select the ‘Remember me’ option, your login data will be stored for a fortnight. When you log out of your account, the login cookies will be deleted.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be stored in your browser. This cookie does not contain any personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you have just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this website may contain embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly the same as if you had visited another website.
These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged into this site.

With whom we share your data

If a user requests a password reset, their IP address will be included in the email requesting a password reset.

How long we keep your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are stored indefinitely. This allows us to automatically recognise and approve any subsequent comments, rather than holding them in a moderation queue.
For users who register on our website (if they exist), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except that they cannot change their username). Site administrators can also view and edit this information.

What rights you have in relation to your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You may also request that we delete any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data that we are required to hold for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Where your data is transmitted

Visitor comments may be checked by an automated spam detection service.
